What we are aiming for
We want Time + Energy to be usable by as many people as possible, including people who use a keyboard instead of a mouse, a screen reader, larger text, or who are sensitive to motion. We are working toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA. We have not yet had an independent accessibility audit, so we do not claim full conformance.
What we already do
- Readable colours. Every colour theme, including the three light themes, is checked by an automated test that measures the contrast of all visible text against its background and fails if any falls below a 3:1 minimum. Our target for normal text is the stricter 4.5:1, and we are working to reach it everywhere.
- Less motion. If your device asks for reduced motion, we switch off sliding, flying and flashing effects and show still versions instead. A “Lite” mode also removes heavy visual effects.
- Plain words. Every tab opens with a short plain-English sentence on how it works, and a help section explains every part of the site.
- Large touch targets on phones. Buttons on phone-sized screens are built to be easy to press.
Known limitations
- Time + Energy is a dense dashboard. Some custom controls, such as the dial selectors, charts, and the full-screen calendar, may be harder to use with a screen reader or keyboard alone than standard controls.
- Some pictures and charts do not yet have full text descriptions.
- Not every screen has been tested with every screen reader.
We are working through these. If something stops you from using the site, we want to know.
